The Gateway of India is a masterpiece of architecture and beautiful monument, located in Colaba’s Apollo Bandar. It’s a crowded place, visited by hundreds of people each day. It is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in Mumbai. It was on the top of my list when visiting Mumbai. When I arrived in Mumbai, the next day I reached to my dream place, “Gateway of India” again. Why again? Because I have already visited the Gateway of India when I was in high-school.
Gateway of India Mumbai: A Masterpiece and Historical Place You Must Visit
Short History of Gateway of India Mumbai
The Gateway of India was built to commemorate the landing of Queen Mary and King George V at Apollo Bunder in 1911. The last British ships left from this place and hence it is considered as one of the historical places in India. The British Raj spent almost Rs. 21 lakhs for the construction of this place. It was a hefty amount at that time.
You Should Spend Good Time There
The Gateway of India is an overcrowded place. Still, it’s a good place to spend a few hours with your loved one or solo. You would find many travellers out there who came from different states of India and many from different countries. It’s a great experience to see the beautiful Arabia Sea from the Gateway of India Mumbai. I have spent almost half day in this beautiful place.
How I Reached Gateway of India Mumbai
I was staying at Mohammad Ali Road. The distance between Mohammed Ali Road and Gateway of India is about 4 km. We have taken BEST bus (local city bus) of Mumbai to reach there. It was one of the most convenient ways to reach Gateway of India. If you are on budget, then you must take this way to save some extra money.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (Mumbai CST, or Mumbai Central) is one of the nearest railway junctions from the Gateway of India. You could use the local train to reach there too.
