  1. Titanic was an express transatlantic PASSENGER LINER; she was not a ‘cruise ship’.
    And there’s no such thing as a ‘cruise liner’ – it’s a contradiction in terms. To labour the point: a liner runs a ‘line’ between two ports (or range of ports), whereas a cruise ship has a variable itinerary (it varies with the seasons).

    The passenger liner has now largely been rendered obsolete by air transport. Cargo liners are still extant.
